About Us
In 2007 Kim Sanchez went on a missions trip with her church to Nakuru Kenya. As a dental hygienist, she saw a huge need for dentistry. Being moved by this need, she followed the calling that the Lord laid on her heart to organize a group to bring dentistry to the underserved community in Nakuru town.
The first dental mission in 2008 had 7 members; 1 portable dental chair and 2 cardboard dental chairs for the dentist and 2 hygienists, and a pressure cooker sterilizing pot. Much of the equipment that year was rented by donations from Christian Dental Society. We set up a dental clinic at a school in a make shift room without much space, a lot of drop cords, using a shop vacuum and generator and blessed by the willingness to do God’s will, served lots of dentistry for those underserved. There were many blessings, difficulties and it truly was a learning curve. However, it set the stage for many trips to come.
The years to follow, with returning dental mission trip in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017, have seen many changes. The team in 2017 was 16 members… 4 dentists, 5 dental assistants, 2 hygienists, 5 lay people who do a host of various things such as sterilization, administrative and clinic helpers! We have, through many dental supplies and monetary donation have acquired 6 dental chairs, dental carts, dental instruments, for a clinic. We have stored our equipment over the years and set our clinic up each time we go back. We do cleanings, exams, fillings, root canals, extractions, give instructions for oral hygiene (home care), supply many with toothbrushes and toothpaste. There are a lot of logistics that go with planning each trip both dental and travel but God has provided all that we have ever needed and more. It’s always exciting to see how God uses everyone on these trips. Sometimes, it’s for the most the most important thing…just loving on kids or the people we come in contact with.
Yes, our vehicle is dentistry but our true mission is to carry a message of hope and mercy, extend the same unconditional love we have been shown by the Lord and to be a blessing to those souls who are so deserving. What truly happened is that we have been blessed and learned so many life lessons from the wonderful people/kids in Nakuru Kenya. We do community projects in the area to help with ongoing sustainability each trip.
Our future plans are to buy land and build a clinic that can be utilized not only when mission trip is planned but for daily use. We would like to continue with dental mission trips. However, we are interested in sustainability by sending select students to dental school at the university there, working with local dentists and reaching out to those who have dental needs, without the ability to pay. This country doesn’t have government programs to help, they are just subject to suffer. We would like to help ease the pain and suffering in Nakuru Kenya.
